With extensive rebuilding and additions including the excavation of a sandstone rock outcrop there was a clean slate for the new garden design. The rear courtyard connects the inside living area with the outdoors and is also visible from the first floor bedrooms.
The client required that the courtyard be a practical and eye catching outdoor entertaining area and include storage space, a pull out clothesline and an area for their three children to play.
The gardens and water feature were designed to provide extra seating. The storage space and clothes line were concealed behind the water feature and the two feature walls were designed to create drama and spatial illusion with the use of polished aluminum sheeting and ancient French metal panels.
Together with a palette of vibrant warm colours and formal planting the new courtyard exceeded all expectations. |
